Guidelines for Linking

by Tom

Keith Robinson offers up his Guidelines for Linking. As he says in the introduction to this article, staying conscious of the basics when it comes to any design discipline is helpful and reminders from time to time are appropriate.

In this post he offers background and the rationale behind linking issues such as: underlining links in content, making sure that your links actually look like links, making your navigation clear to the user, titling links properly, using the title attribute where it’s appropriate, why it makes sense to change the color or state of links on a page that have been visited, the idea that buttons should actually work like buttons, and that bigger buttons are easier to use. He also includes a short list of further resources.
