Google Enhances Searching with Firefox

by Tom

Google announced on Wednesday that the company has added prefetching to some searches. Prefetching tells the Web browser to automatically start downloading the top result. Currently this feature is only available in Mozilla and Firefox, and can be optionally disabled.  This may seem like a small speed enhancement but remember that Google has from the beginning been interested in delivering its results as quickly as possible, seeing it as critical to an optimal user experience.

No doubt some users will have a problem philosophically with Google essentially  removing control–albeit on a very small level–from the user in the name of this speed advantage, but all in all I personally wouldn’t have a problem with it. Processes transparent to users are continually under way when it comes to browser activity.
