If you’re running OSX Panther, you can now update to version 10.3.9 which includes Safari 1.3 and new versions of WebKit, WebCore, and JavaScriptCore that contain thousands of improvements Apple has made to the engine since Safari 1.2. You can view all the major changes at Surfin’ Safari. Some of the more noteworthy ones in my opinion are:
- Page load performance
- JavaScript performance
- HTML editing
- Compatibility and security
- The DOM exposed
- XSLT
- Plug-in extensions
On top of everything else you’ll find that the new Safari is noticeably faster, or at least that’s the word from early users. I’m still a Firefox fan but I’m happy to see that Apple continues to aggressively improve its browser, because I’m a big fan of Apple as well.
