GIMPShop

by Tom

GIMPshop is a modification to the open-source photo editor – GIMP – makes GIMP look and feel like PhotoShop. The product renames and reorganizes GIMP’s tools, options, windows, and menus to closely resemble Adobe Photoshop’s menu structure and naming conventions. Many of the menu options and even whole menus were recreated to faithfully reproduce a Photoshop-like experience. Only available for Mac and Linux at this time, but a Window port is due out soon.

Talk about a backhanded complement to Adobe. Still, it’s a very interesting approach: essentially skinning  a large and complex software package, not necessarily to make Gimp easier to work with but simply to enable people to use the familiarity  with Photoshop that they have accumulated over time.
