Howto: Installing Ruby on Rails with Lighttpd and MySQL on Fedora Core 4

by Tom Mullaly on August 9, 2005

I’ve just completed my first Linux howto titled – Installing Ruby on Rails with Lighttpd and MySQL on Fedora Core 4 | Digital Media Minute. If you’re like me, you hate to install experimental software on your production servers or development environments. With that in mind, the intended focus of this howto is to get you up an running with Rails on a separate PC that is isolated from your day to day work. Linux makes perfect sense here as it is free and will run very well on rather old hardware – of which you probably have hidden in a corner of your office.

The howto has been well tested (I have run through it at least 10 times myself) so hopefully it will be a flawless process for you to follow.

I am by no means a Linux expert, but I have tried my best to explain the installation process and some basic security measures. If you find any of the information to be less than accurate, please drop me an email at jim.rutherford@gmail.com and I will be happy to incorporate it into this howto!
