A great collection of Free Web Application Icons have been made available by web developer Mark James. The collection contains over 300 icons in PNG format and is constantly being added to.
The value of icons should be clear to everyone, not only web designers by now; it’s easy to understand that the engagement in a website is affected probably more because of its visual elements then any text-based brilliance that jumps off the page at the reader of the site. Icons affect the “feel” of the website and that is an aspect that can quickly repel people if it is not done properly, i.e. constructing an aesthetically pleasing site. More than ever icons are much, much more than simple “decoration”.
