Designing for Color Blindness

by Tom

Here is a great article on Color Blindness and Designing for the Web. The article has a great section detailing the different types of color blindneess and has links to some great resources like a Color Lookup Table.

They have also developed a small applet where designers can enter any foreground and background color and the applet calculates how these colors appear to individuals with the three types of colorblindness.

Usability and ‘Universal Access’ is expected to be a prime consideration today for all user interface designers, as well it should be. Not only are the technical challenges virtually always surmountable with some thought, everyone deserves to participate in the ongoing computer revolution, even those among us who are colorblind.
