The Pragmatic Programmers are offering a new concept in book publishing called Fridays. A Friday is a short, highly focused book, typically addressing a specific technical topic. It’s written to the same high-quality as all their other books but are only available in PDF format for a charge of between $7.50 to $10.00. It’s good to see that people are attempting to experiment with new e-book formats beyond the traditional text book put to PDF.
After all, part of the reason why textbooks have always been so enormous is that it cost a lot to put them together as physical products. This constraint doesn’t exist with virtual books so why not sell them in smaller, more manageable chunks of information?
