Freeware RSS Reader Recommendations?

I’m giving a presentation next week to a group of non-technical internet users about RSS and feed aggregation. I’m planning on showing them a couple of web based readers (Google Reader and Bloglines) as well as a couple of commercial apps (NetNewsWire and Feed Demon), but I’d also like to show them a couple of good freeware standalone readers. Does anybody know of any good ones for either Mac or PC? Thanks in advance for your help!

I use the Sage plugin for Firefox and for a Windows stand-alone app I prefer Sharpreader. I posted links here:

I recently moved everything from Bloglines to the self-hosted Gregarius (http://gregarius.net/). Couldn’t be happier.

I actually quite like Mozilla Thunderbird for RSS - especially if you’re using it for email. NewsGator’s Outlook Edition is also great for those users who live in Outlook.

Tried OnFolio - works within Internet Explorer + Firefox, it’s feed support was decent last time I looked.

Personally, I’ve switched from all of these to Rojo http://rojo.com for a web-based reader. I really like the tagging and simplicity of the UI overall.

on Windows I use SharpReader. the only downside is, that it needs the .NET-Framework.

on MacOSX, I prefer the opensource reader Vienna(hosted by Sourceforge). It’s way better that NetNewsWire

FeedDaemon is my choice, but for freeware, try RSS Bandit:

Sharpreader is probably the best free windows product. I used it for a long time before splashing the cash on FeedDemon

I like Opera’s integrated RSS reader a lot. Opera’s completely free now (no banner ad anymore).

I agree with Dave here. The RSS reader in Opera is awesome. Can’t tell you how many times I’ve used the search feature to find past articles from your blog. The latest technical preview of Opera 9 also has some improvements like the ability to display pictures and ATOM 1.0 support.

Snarfer is quite good too. Simple, clean, lite.

I’ve just recently started using RRS readers, but I have tried out a few. Opera’s built in e-mail style reader was my favourite. When you visit a site with RSS or Atom feeds and RSS icon appears in the address field. All you have to do to subscribe to a feed is Click on the icon.

My second choice would be RSSOwl, a free stand alone.

I use Omea Reader. It offers the best functionality and layout of all the RSS readers. It’s free as well.

few people know about it, but if you try it, you won’t be disappointed
