Here is a good hack article… Building a $200 OSx86 Mac shows in great detail how to build a very cheap “Mac”! Never thought I would ever write that, but it appears to be true! If you have a child or young friend who’s already showing interest in hardware hacking it’s hard for me to imagine a better project than this one.
When you’re finished the distinction between different platforms should be driven home very clearly, and this is a wonderful point to understand for anyone who might be moving into a computer hardware or software career in the future.
