Pandora - It’s Disruptive

I’ve been using and listening to Pandora all morning and I can’t believe how awesome it is. In my opinion, this is disruptive technology at work here. Here’s why.

For the past 30 years of my life, I’ve been discovering new music by listening to the radio. Radio does an OK job, but really the radio stations don’t really help with the discovery of new artists. Sure every month or two, I hear an artists that perks my ears, but mostly, I hear the same songs from the same artists over and over again. Radio also has too much talking and advertising that also gets in the way of discovering new music - but hey, they need to pay their bills.

Pandora totally kills the radio. I really like Dave Matthews, so I typed his name into Pandora and for the last hour, I’ve been listening to awesome music by artists that are remarkably alike Dave’s style.

I hope Pandora does well, I’ve already got a list of songs that I’ll be purchasing at iTunes Music Store (by clicking on Pandora’s affilliate link of course).

How would you compare Pandora to Last.fm? I find Last.fm more user-friendly, and even more interesting than Pandora, though the music selection might be a little more broad at Pandora. I’m trying to decide which service to subscribe to.

Sorry, but last.fm seems to me more an advertising platform. When I enter Estefan and between the first ten artists which it returns are: Whitney Houston, Tina Turner, Cher and Madonna I don’t believe the algorithm for the style of music works very well.
See the difference of the songs choosed at Pandora.

I didn’t know neither of this two pages before I read this blog …

Maybe pandora is ok if you have very mainstream musical tastes, but pandora has a very limited selection and recognises about 1% of the artists i actually like.

i dont think you can really compare them too much because last.fm is much more than a radio.
