Karelia Software has an interesting Proposal for Webkit Programmers. You see, they have a product that makes extensive use of Apple’s Webkit (aka Safari). The problem is that a few bugs in Webkit are hampering their development. The solution? Pay a bounty to developers who fix the bugs that are “bugging” them!
Interesting solution, and maybe a first of its kind. And as more software project begin to use more open source products, maybe we’ll see much more of this in the future. The reality is there’s a lot of people in the world who are extremely knowledgeable, for whom the amount being paid is considerably more than trivial. Talk about a win-win for both software companies and educated, deserving people from the developing world.
