As if animated GIF’s weren’t bad enough, it appears as though Firefox 1.5 now supports animated favicons! Check out the Web Design Company London (UK) Site for an example. Arggggh! For me the point is that just because something is possible to do, it doesn’t necessarily make any design or functional sense at all. You would think it would be obvious that animated favicons clearly fall into this category.
Having little distractions like this that would amuse six-year-olds and that use up computing resources seems nonsensical unless your site is made specifically for young children, which is probably very unlikely. Well, usually silly fads like this die off quickly and I hope this one does.

I see the animated GIF work in FF 1.0.7 as well!
Probably something that was always there, and not many people noticed :)
it’s been in mozilla for years (i think the first version that had it was mozilla 0.9.x), so firefox supported that since phoenix 0.1.
