The fine people who created the software that runs this blog have just announced that WordPress 2 has officially been released. Tonnes of great new features including a completely redesigned backend that includes a bunch of AJAX goodness, the awesome Askimet comment spam busting plugin, resizable editing box and faster posting! I have to say I couldn’t be happier to have switched to WordPress now that they have released this unbelievably great new version.
A quick word about Askimet especially– on other platforms comment spam was a real problem and wasted a lot of my time trying to deal with it. My initial impressions of Akismet are that it’s incredibly efficient at blocking comments which should be blocked, but I’ve been looking carefully through what it does block and I don’t see any legitimate comments in there at all. Not even one! My prediction is that WordPress rises sonner or later to become the premier blogging platform in the world.

Have you upgraded, and if so, did you encounter any problems?
Ya – I upgraded and everything went very well. The only problem I had was with a plugin called the “Ultimate Tag Warrior”. The fix was as easy as going to their website and downloading the most recent version.
