JavaScript Lightbox

Lightbox JS is a nifty unobtrusive script used to to overlay images on the current page. It’s a simple to setup and works on all modern browsers. So simple in fact, all you need to do is add a rel="lightbox" attribute to the anchor tag that surrounds the img element and the effect is added on page load!

From what I’ve seen it does not work in Internet Explorer 6. Do other people have this problem also?

Scratch that, appears to be working now.

I’ve made a few additions to make it show captions and an optional link to the original Flickr-picture. You can see it in action on my weblog, together with a small explanation (only in Dutch, I’m affraid):

Kjell Bublitz has created a Lightbox plugin for Wordpress based on Lokesh Dhakar Javacript version.

I just deployed Lightbox on my website today and I’m loving it! I really like the polaroid-like frame and the smooth transition effects. It does take a bit of a toll on the enduser’s CPU usage, but I think it’s worth the nice effects.

Check that out… click on any of the items under “images” on the right side and you’ll see how I deployed Lightbox.
