Feed Icons – Help establish the new standard

by Tom

Feed Icons is a new project to promote and establish the use of a standard feed/rss icon. You can download the icon that is being used by Firefox and IE in a convenient zip file that includes variations in AI, EPS, SVG, PSD, PDF, PNG, JPG, and GIF formats.

I think this project is great and plan on supporting it, however, I have a problem with the icon being offered in varying colors. If the icon is to become a standard, shouldn’t it always be in the same color?  Not everybody is going to be familiar with RSS feed icons as tech-savvy geeks are, and it seems to me that a lot of newbies will be confused by different icon colors and what the differences may or may not mean. Your thoughts?

A agree with you, I’ve discovered this site some days ago and thought the same thing you are saying here: One color is enough.

The important thing is the standardisation of the icon and imho the most of the people will go with the orangish one, the “standard” color will impose itself.

Thank You
