SEO Advice: Discussing 302 Redirects

by Tom

Google employee Matt Cutts offers some more SEO advice. This time Mat disusses 302 redirects and how you can use them to help search engines index pages. First thing to understand about a 301 and a 302 redirect is that 302 status code indicates that the webpage in question has only temporarily moved to a new location, as opposed to the 301 status code, which tells you that the move is permanent.

Check the article for pretty much everything you’ll need to know for 302 redirects, especially as they relate to search engine optimization. And, if you aren’t aware yet who Matt Cutts is, and you run a website of any kind, you really should be. He is Google’s anti-spam chief and fortunately he is extremely communicative through both articles on his site and videos where he clearly communicates ways that webmasters can do better in Google’s search.
