Microsoft, Google, Yahoo! Unite to Support Sitemaps

Wow! Did I miss hell freezing over? Microsoft, Google and Yahoo! – the three major search engines – have United to Support Sitemaps. This can be nothing but good for web developers and content creators. As all web publishers and bloggers should know in 2006, Sitemaps are simple XML files that help search engines determine how to spider your site and how often to do it. Whoa… How’d I miss that? I guess a new project will be to automatically have CMS’s generate a sitemap.

Doesn’t look like they automatically check for the file though. That’d be nicer than having to submit it.

Ergo

Nice to see that search engines collaborate and develop new standards
