UPDATE : Vincent’s site is now by invitation only. I have written my own solution and it can be found here. I am not certain that I did as good of a job as Vincent did but for a lot of people my article will be the only one that is accessable.
Vincent McCurley just saved me a bunch of time. After spending a good part of 30 minutes trying to setup Coldfusion to hook up to a local instance of SQL Server 2005 Exress, a desperate Google search came up with his excellent tutorial – Vincent McCurley: Connecting ColdFusion to SQL Server 2005 Express. Worked like a charm! Now onto some Flex/CF goodness!

I’m not invited to Vincent McCurley’s site either and don’t know how to be invited. And I’ve tried to hook up SQL Server 2005 Express several times and failed. I am using SQL Server 2000 which works fine but would prefer to not have to reinstall it every 120 days or stand without it one day… I also want to know which one of all different versions to pick, using it with Cold Fusion only. Ben Forta wrote on his blog how to install SQL Server 2005- not Express- but that may not be applicable to the Express edition.
