Microsoft is making one of their new Vista font families, Consolas, available for download. Consolas is a monospaced typeface that would look great in any text editor that you might use. This font package is designed for Microsoft’s ClearType; end-users will want to be aware that the installation package makes the default font for Visual Studio set to Consolas. Either way, in case you appreciate Consolas but are unfamiliar with fonts generally, a monospace font is one in which characters all are the same width, which most usability experts feels heightens readability. This is a one-click download over at the Microsoft Download Center.

too bad it’s a .exe file, only available for XP & Vista… I, for a couple seconds, thought that it would be freely available for EVERYONE to download.
well said, tim.
it turns out this typeface may indeed “look great in any text editor”, the installer file requires Microsoft Visual Studio 2005 to be installed. How dumb is that??
Well it does say this in the Overview:
“This package is only intended for licensed users of Microsoft Visual Studio 2005.”
yeah, i’d agree with tim, klokie and abhay.
