Photo Tourism is an amazing demo of a new software application from Microsoft called Photosynth. In the screencast the presenter uses over 300 images of Trevi Fountain found on the web to create a stunning 3D walkthrough of this famous Italian landmark. It’s not clear to me exactly what this software will be used for frankly, but what is clear is that it’s a much better way to see locations that have had a lot of photographs taken of them more fully than just about any way you can imagine except walking around the location in real life. Even the presentation of all the photos from different angles is quite incredible.
