Here is a great tool that that makes it super easy to create a favicon.ico file for your website. favikon is a slick little web app that lets you upload any image you like, crop and resize it, then finally export it to a favicon.ico file that you can then place on your website. For those of you not aware of what a favicon is, they are the little icons that appear next to the URL in your location bar. They are becoming standard for anybody who has a website; if you don’t it just looks a little bit unprofessional, I think. Here are some details on favicons and how to place them on your site.

Nice! I recall it was quite problematic creating favicons in the past as photoshop (or whatever tool I was using) could not export to this format natively. I was pleasantly surprised to see that the GIMP supports saving as .ico files now too.
This has traditionally been a huge pain.
I’ve just been using PNGs, though, which seem to work pretty much everywhere now, right?
