Domain Availability Checker
A domain availability checker is something I use fairly regularly. Ideas for niche sites, search terms that seem to be increasing in relevancy, or ideas for good brandable names are good reasons to do a fast domain check.
In the early days I’d actually use domain registrars’ homepage tools for checking domain availability, but they are usually so wrapped up in selling me things that they move like elephants. I mean I like elephants, but I don’t want to spend 15 minutes checking variations on a search term. I’d much rather get back to cleaning the cat’s litter box than that stop/go nonsense.
Digital Media Minute did a post a while ago about a good tool for checking domain availability, but my current favorite is such a slick little timesaver that it’s worth a post.
Bustaname is a tool that returns a result after each letter typed, for the .com, .net, .org by default, but the best aspect of it is the Word Combiner feature. Type in a few words and it will return a list of synonyms for each. You can then choose synonyms to be combined and it ends up showing you combinations that are available as domains. It’s very fast, which is the most important thing if you are checking variations.
What is your favorite tool for checking domains?
