Server Installation Packages
If you are trying to keep your Mac OSX Web Development Servers up to date, you should check out Aaron Faby’s collection of installation packages. He has packages for Apache 2.x, PHP 4.x, Tomcat 4.x, MySQL 4.x and various other Unix type packages.
Best of all, he offers these packages for free (if you feel generous, like I did, you can donate to him via PayPal). He is very quick to update his installation packages when new updates (usually security fixes) happen.
It is also important to note that these installation packages do not require you to open a Terminal window and type in huge and cryptic Unix commands so these packages are a breeze to install. The packages also include System Preference plugins to allow you to manage (usually Start/Stop/Restart) the servers.
He also installs the servers into standard Unix locations, and makes the configuration files accessible (unlike Marc Liyanage’s scripts) so if you need to tweak your server installations, the config files are available.
