The First Domain Ever Registered

by Tom

The first domain name ever registered was just sold by its original owner. Care to venture a guess what that domain would be?
And, when would you say it was registered?
I’ll admit I was off by six years!
What was the first domain ever registered? When was it registered?

‘Symbolics.com’

Symbolics is now symbolics-dks.com, and here is the story, per their new site:

Symbolics is currently a privately held company which acquired the assets and intellectual property of the old public company called Symbolics, Inc. The old Symbolics was the premier producer of special-purpose computer systems for running and developing state-of-the-art object-oriented programs in Lisp. It designed and built workstations as well as writing a fully object-oriented operating system and development environment called “Genera” to run on those workstations. Symbolics also created a number of software tools to work with Genera.

I suppose the new URL will work just as well for their business, and the cash injection was probably pretty healthy!

Google must give that domain a fair bit of credit in the search results for being 24 years old!
