Real Player contains spyware and adware. It is not reliable and is not trusted by many computer users, that is why most informed users uninstall it as soon as possible. There is absolutely no need for it and the BBC should dispense with it forthwith

Real Player is legal, contains no adware/spyware. It is reliable, and is trusted by many computer companies. Otherwise
there wouldn’t be many computers installed with Real Player at purchase. The ones you guys downloaded were from a fake site. You see there are 2 sites, http://www.real.com and http://www.realplayer.com.
Which do you think is real?

i agree that real player is rude, intrusive, arrogant, spyware/adware. these guys are slime, they never stop. i am not sure if the real player alternative really helps unless they have their own codec, because i tried an alternative recently that used nothing from the low life scum at real except real’s codec – all the wrapper was independent, but the spyware crap scum from the scum was still there, apparently IN the codec. that is why they are scum and it is scum.

does anyone know of a clean independent codec that reads the format from the scum people?

You can also use it with AVISYNTH to convert your videos out of that RM format into something more standard. Sorry RealPlayer, but when you choked your player with adware/spyware/nagware you signed your own notice of dissolution.

I too refuse to load RealPlayer on to any computer that I am responsible for (Approx. 70). I was just sent to a site to view a video that I need to see; and, of course, it is only available in RealPlayer. So I have begun a new practice. I have composed an Email that I will send to each company/website that I encounter that only offers media content in RealPlayer format explaining to them that due to RealPlayer’s questionable License Agreement, marketing practices, and an application that incorporates “Spyware,” I will not be returning to their website until all of their media content is available in a format viewable in either QuickTime or Windows Media Player as well. I suggest all of you start to do the same.

D/loaded realplayer so I could hear classic BBC comedy on radio 7 now i get asked if I want to hear the latest pop music from rplayer.Pop music spam to me is like child p0rn. No, I dont want to listen to the latest song by a doc marten boot wearing, acoustic guitar playing, basement recording, starbucks sponsored mobile phone advertising idiot, despite the fact Real Networks assume I should.

Oh, I have mail do I? thats funny, I can’t remember setting up an account with realplayer to interrupt my scripts as they’re compiled, what joy, Alisha Mcforgottenaboutbynextmonday’s hybrid folk/fusion album is out. Well I’m so glad I learned that 3 hours into the process.

Oh dear, Alisha,by sucking the nobs of corporate spammers it seems as though the green ideology you so fervenlty espouse was for nothing as I now need to leave this computer on overnight to compile something your scummy record label interuppted. Also im now so pissed I’m probably going to wake up tomorrow, club the nearest seal pup to death, sell it’s corpse to McDonald’s, buy it back, find the most carbon dense area of it’s body, set fire to it, remove all the insulation rom my walls, and just melt some random plastic for the heck of it.

I went to download the real player at the BBC site but it’s not some unique player but rather the same one from real.com, and you don’t download it from the BBC but instead real.com. So whatever adware/spyware and other problems the player has it will still have. Whether or not the BBC had their own version of real player, it doesn’t anymore.

Same problem — Real Player keeps trying to “phone home” even after I delete that part of the program from the Startup Registry. It just keeps loading itself in at irregular intervals. I sure as hell don’t need a player to tell the company everything I listen to, or force itself on my system when I don’t need it.
