What comes after the mouse and 2-D windows? R. Clayton Miller at 10gui.com shows us Con10uum, which totally integrates aspects of GUI design and multi-touch actions in intuitive yet very powerful ways. This quick video shows shows real vision in interface design.
If the computer on every desktop and the environment that is the web has deeply altered most aspects of our society, human-computer interaction really seems to have lagged behind. My trusty mouse and keyboard has done the job, but the technical constraints that led to their development and usage are absolutely no longer with us. At the same time increased interaction bandwidth will become more necessary over time, as hardware and software evolve. Also, there is a compelling ease-of-use argument for multi-touch particularly: look at how easily users took to it on iPhone, and no manuals required. My bet is that most people who have the functionality on their laptops use it extensively. I know I do.
Whether you are interested in interface design or merely a mouse user, take a look at where we’re going. We’ve written about Good GUI design before but this is user interface design for programmers, or at least design that should inspire programmers.
This is slap-yer-mammy cool.
