We have done posts on how to make a video game for kids before, and we have done a slew of posts on python in the last several years, but here is a way to teach kids how to create their own very simple video games, like Tic Tac Toe and Hangman and learn python principals in the process. Released under the creative commons license, 2nd edition by Albert Sweigart. If you have a kid who seems interested in all in technical subjects I would strongly suggest nudging them towards this article–combining a game with serious education like this has got to have real value for any curious young person.

Hi! This is Al, the author. Thanks for the mention!
Al you’re more than welcome– it’s a wonderful concept and you did a great job on the execution! I’m seeing mentions of inventwithpython.com all over the net. Congrats.
