Flash of Unstyled Content

by Tom

Some pages that use the CSS @import rule experience a curious display quirk in the Windows version of MS Internet Explorer: a momentary flash of unstyled page content. An article titled – Flash of Unstyled Content (FOUC) explains the phenomenon and offers two simple fixes. I should probably say it again: I am not taking backhanded swipes at Internet Explorer or Microsoft, but I do feel compelled to point at problems that people have uncovered with the browser especially when they are accompanied by fixes. It is still the most popular browser in the world and I’m a little surprised at the quirkiness with which users still have to contend in Internet Explorer in 2004.
