Making Your Own Website Uptime Monitor

by Tom

Digital Media Minute recently did a very well-received list post evaluating seven website uptime monitoring services; here’s a nice tutorial from catswhocode.com on creating a website uptime monitor script using PHP, which will also send you an email or sms if it’s down. Just about everyone with a website can use this.

Considering all of the different companies that offer monitoring services like this, it seems to me that with a little imagination if you could come up with a couple of extra features and add them to a monitor that you create, it could very quickly turn into a business opportunity for enterprising programmers. Just a thought.
