Changing hosts is one of those things I do so infrequently that I have to pre-plan/relearn the process each time, or at least consult a reminder list before I screw anything up. To that end here is a very nice 13-item list from HostWisely, of things that one should do before moving files and databases over to a new host, with special emphasis on easily overlooked DNS-related details. If you have any websites at all that are self-hosted, even if you can’t imagine why you’d ever want to change hosts I would suggest bookmarking this because trust me that day might eventually come.
