Red Alert (Quicktime MOV) is an excellent short-documentary that shows the talented graphic designer who was responsible for the Homeland Security Warning System. Regardless of your feelings about the political ramifications of this warning system, consider the formidable task that was in front of the designer of this tool. It had to be a way to notify people very simply, regardless of their age or level of education, but still be specific enough to provide real, actionable information. All in all I think he did a good job on what is quickly becoming one of the most easily recognizable systems that the government uses to communicate with citizens, and I suppose that is exactly the point.
