Over on ZDNet, Ed Burnette tells us why EmEditor is the best editor for editing very large files (2+ GB). Again were talking about files that are over two GB, and I know I have opened enormous text files before without checking their size beforehand and run into problems with the text editor I was using. EmEditor is not a free tool and it only works with Windows at least at the moment, but this is clearly an industrial-strength tool, with native 64-bit and 32-bit builds available. The claims about it being extremely fast are what probably makes this most attractive to a lot of potential users– a free trial is offered, go check it out if you’re not completely happy with your current text editor.
