Lord Stanley

There’s something about the Stanley Cup trophy presentation that sets the NHL championship apart from other professional sports. First, the Cup is presented to the players – not the owners as in most other sports. Next, there is the parade around the rink, where every player hoists the Cup over his head and plants a kiss on Stanley. Finally, the players gather at center ice for a picture. And all this is done in front of all the important people – the fans!

Congratulations Dave Andreychuk – a first time cup winner after 22 years in the NHL – and the Tampa Bay Lightning!

Being a Canadian, I was also cheering for Calgary (even though they beat my Canucks in round one), but I am very happy for Andreychuk. This tops a great career.
