What Makes Good Web Design?

by Tom

D. Keith Robinson presents The Big Web Design Details List which contains a rather long list of items that he looks for when evaluating good website design. There is endless fodder for debate here for web designers at your next cocktail party. For me, the reality is that what “works” for given design is too dependent on what particular site is trying to accomplish by way of using that design. I’m not sure if we can ever definitively say the design is “good” if we are trying to make that determination outside of the context other site as a whole. Anyway, it’s important for people in the trenches to consider the big picture on an abstract level sometimes and this terrific list should definitely get people thinking about web design theory.
