UPDATE: Expose for Windows

Saturday, February 21st, 2004

Expose is a fantastic new feature in Mac OSX that allows you to clear a cluttered desktop and shows you all of your apps nicely organized for easy task switching. Now Windows users can enjoy similar functionality using iEX.

UPDATE: You can also get iEX from http://www.oxygen-inc.com/premium/InsaniSoft/iEx.htm. The file that you download includes iEX and a nice little GUI application for configuring iEX. (Thanks to James Moberg for the link)

Alternately, you can go to the Aqua-Soft Forums and download this small utility via a forum thread. Here are the instructions…

  1. Goto Aqua Soft Forums and sign up for a free member account.
  1. Visit the forum named Siwu’s Apps
  2. From there you can download the app in the forum thread named *[release] Iex V0.2* then follow the installation instructions.

Branding Firefox

Wednesday, February 18th, 2004

Jon Hicks of hicksdesign.com talks about his role in the branding of Firefox. He has an interesting comment about Macromedia Fireworks:

”[The icon was] rendered using Fireworks MX. I’ve been using Fireworks over Illustrator or Photoshop for icon design as I love the way I can work in vectors and see the result in pixels, rather than smooth vectors. The updated gradient tools in MX make this possible too.”

Is the Browser War is Heating Up?

Wednesday, February 18th, 2004

Here are the Minutes from the Mozilla Staff Meeting after the release of Firefox. Some interesting comments…

There were aproximately 73K downloads on the first day, and about 30K failures due to capacity issues. Most interesting though is that just under half of people that clicked on the Windows download link came from IE 6.0 user agents! Maybe the browser war is heating up!
