MacMinute has a report that Konfabulator creators are calling Mac OS X Tiger is a Copycat. The developer claims:
“It’s insulting, is what it is,” Rose told CNET News.com. “They could have at least offered to work with us or to buy it.” He says that if Apple is going to continue to take ideas from third-party developers, the company risks losing its developer community. “Why should developers want to work on their platform?”
For years, Microsoft has been raked over the coals for including applications as part of their operating systems. I think that Apple is walking a slippery slope. Today alone, three apps were bundled with their OS that could potentially hurt some great applications like:
I have yet to see MS add an application to their OS that is a fabulous piece of software. Even as popular as Internet Explorer is, it is still not the best. In most cases, the software bundled with Windows is basic at best, and almost encourages you to purchase a third party application for better features (i.e. Nero Burning ROM vs. the built in CD burning utility).
The bigger issue with Apple is that when they make software, they make GREAT software (iTunes, iDVD, iPhoto, etc). This could have serious implications for the above listed software products.
Apple had better watch out. The last thing they need to do is alienate their friends.
