Google Opens Writely

Writely is an online word processor that was recently purchased by Google. On acquisition, Google immediately closed registration for new users but now they have opened the online application to everyone!

Having used Writely, I have found it to be extremely useful in collaborative document editing. You can import Word documents, and save to PDF, OpenOffice, Rich Text Format and zip which makes this tool very versatile. Writely autosaves your work every 10 seconds and allows you to also store your work online.

Google Analytics Open to Everyone

Google Analytics Blog reports Google Analytics is open to everyone. The service was up until now open only by invite, but this restriction has been lifted and anybody with a website can now use this excellent hosted service for tracking web traffic on their sites. It’s also worth noting that Google Analytics is also free!

Apple’s Boot Camp has just been updated to version 1.1. This release offers the following killer features:

  • Support for the latest Intel-based Macintosh computers
  • Easier partitioning using presets for popular sizes
  • Ability to install Windows XP on any internal disk
  • iSight camera support
  • Support for built-in microphones
  • Right-click when pressing the right-hand Apple key on Apple keyboards
  • Improved Apple keyboard support including Delete, PrintScreen, NumLock, and ScrollLock keys

Vanilla Goes Gold

My new favorite web-based discussion forum softare Vanilla, has just left beta! Version 1.0 is definately worth a look. This simple and elegant forum software is easy to install and use. It is coded with PHP and MySQL so makes a nice match with most hosting packages. The UI makes good use of AJAX, so page load times are excellent.

Recent WebKit Features Include CSS-3 Support

The Surfin’ Safari blog is releasing details on some Recent WebKit Features that will eventually find their way to the Safari web browser. Of note, CSS-3 support for background-size, border-radius, overflow-x and overflow-y as well as a 20-30% boost in JavaScript performance. These additions are available if you’re interested in checking out the nightly builds - otherwise you’ll have to wait until the next version of Safari.

Windows Path to Clipboard

ClipPath is a handy utility for Windows that lets you copy the full path of a file to the clipboard. Simply right-click on a file in Explorer, and choose one of three options from the handy context menu. This tool comes in very handy for editing VHost.conf files in Apache!
