Friday, April 13th, 2007

OpenDNS is a free DNS service that promises to be safer and faster than your ISP’s DNS. They offer a safer DNS by intercepting phishing attempts and warning you if you attempt to visit a phishing site. OpenDNS will also fix typos in the URLs you enter whenever it can. For example, if you’re using OpenDNS craigslist.og will lead directly to craigslist.org.

Thursday, April 12th, 2007

If you haven’t been living under a rock for the past few months, you have undoubtedly heard of Twitter. I like to think of Twitter as asynchronous instant messaging where you publicly post what you are doing at any given time. Virtual Safari Web Browser

Thursday, April 12th, 2007

Mark this as nifty… VirtualSafari is a Web-based frontend for Apple’s WebKit HTML rendering engine. It makes it possible to host a website which looks like the Safari browser and allows the end-user to *load* pages rendered with the WebKit engine (see the demo). When you load up VirtualSafari in any browser, you are shown a window that looks like the Safari browser. Enter an url into a text box, and your URL is sent to a PERL script that processes the page in Webkit and sends it back to the VirtualSafari page. It should be noted that VirtualSafari is an application that must be run on a Mac with a working web server, so if you have one Mac in your office that is used for testing purposes, all PC client can remotely look at pages as they would display in Safari.

Wednesday, April 11th, 2007

SearchLoad Options is one of my favorite Firefox extensions.  Quite simply it gives you an number of options for how the default search bar should behave.  For example you can have each search open up in a new tab and clear the search bar text after a specified number of seconds.
